Sein unverkennbarer, akustischer Gitarrenstil, seine sonore Stimme, sein Faible für Melodien und Vocals aber auch seine charismatische Bühnenpräsenz sind zu Markenzeichen des Niederländers und Wahlwieners geworden. Markenzeichen, welche weltweit anerkannt und geschätzt sind und Theessink – den Bo Diddley einmal als „a hell of guitar player“ betitelte – unter anderem eine Grammy-Nominierung, sowie eine Nominierung der Blues Music Awards in Memphis,TN einbrachten. Dazu mehrere Amadeus- und Danish-Music-Awards. 2018 wurde Hans in The Dutch Blues Hall of Fame aufgenommen.

Alljährlich versammelt Hans Theessink in seinem “zweiten Wiener Wohnzimmer”, dem Metropol, eine illustre Schar an Musikerinnen und Musikern, um dem Publikum – aber auch sich selbst – das wohl schönste Geburtstagsgeschenk zu machen, mit welchem man den unermüdlichen Botschafter der Roots- und Bluesmusik erfreuen kann: gemeinsam Musik zu machen. Wenn die große, viel zu früh von uns gegangene Blueslegende Luther Allison dieser Musik eine “besondere Philosophie” zuschrieb, dann entpuppt er sich als Bruder im Geiste Hans Theessinks. Theessink spielt diese Musik nicht, er lebt, atmet und verkörpert sie, rund um den Globus. Und dies in einer Art und Weise, die leider viel zu selten geworden ist. Hans Theessinks Musik ist, ganz wie er selbst, unaufdringlich, entspannt und geeignet, sich in ihr fallen zu lassen. Seine sonore Stimme und virtuose, rhythmische Gitarre sind ebenso unverkennbare Markenzeichen geworden, wie sein unvergleichliches Songwriting, egal ob er von Liebe, Freundschaft und Zusammengehörigkeit singt oder davon, dass das Leben nicht nur von Sonne geprägt ist. Die Tatsache, dass vollkommen unabhängig von unserer Abstammung und Herkunft, die Farbe unseres Blutes immer dieselbe ist und uns alle damit verbindet, ist ein zentraler Bestandteil der erwähnten Philosophie des Blues. Wer schon einmal ein Konzert von Hans Theessink besuchen konnte, weiß, dass es ihm von den ersten Takten an gelingt, dem Publikum eben dieses Gemeinschaftsgefühl zu vermitteln.

“75 Birthday Bash” dokumentiert das Vorhergesagte geradezu idealtypisch, von “Bridges”, mit Insingizi und Roland Guggenbichler bis zum abschließenden “People Get Ready – One Love”, mit Eric Bibb, Ulrika Bibb, Eleanor Shanley, Vlado Kreslin, Insingizi, Roland Guggenbichler, Douglas Linton & The Plan Bs. Auf “Schwoazzmarie” und “Da Schurl Und da Lingge” beweist Theessink, mit Ernst Molden an der Seite, dass er sich längst auch in die Sprache seiner Wahlheimatstadt verliebt hat. Selbstverständlich mit seinem ureigenen Augenzwinkern. Die Grande Dame des britischen Blues, Dana Gillespie, betritt auf “May The Road” ebenso die Birthday-Bash-Bühne wie u.a. Guy Davis, Anja Klipic, Christina Eckhard, Chris Fillmore, Angus Thomas oder Alee Thelfa, auf einigen Tracks, wie etwa “Slidin´ Delta”, gesellt sich auch Christian Dozzler hinzu. Alleine schon diese Aufzählung stellt außer Streit, welchen immensen Status sich Hans Theessink über die Jahrzehnte weltweit erarbeitet hat. Die Doppel-CD – Ausschnitte daraus finden sich auf einer gleichzeitig erscheinenden Einfach-Vinyl-LP – vermittelt in brillantem Klang eine Atmosphäre des Miteinanders, welche ideal geeignet ist, für ein paar Stunden Ruhe, Lächeln und Gelassenheit zu finden. “Ich sehe die Birthday Bash Konzerte als gute Gelegenheit gemeinsam mit Freunden zu musizieren”, bestätigt Hans Theessink. “Wir machen diese Musik, weil sie uns in der Seele berührt. After more than 8000 concerts and 50 years on the road, HANS THEESSINK is a blues and roots music institution. His unmistakable acoustic guitar style, his sonorous voice, and his penchant for melodies and vocals, as well as his charismatic stage presence, have become trademarks of the Dutchman and Viennese resident. Trademarks that are recognized and appreciated worldwide, and have earned Theessink – whom Bo Diddley once called “a hell of a guitar player” – a Grammy nomination, as well as a nomination at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis TN, and several Amadeus and Danish Music Awards. In 2018, Hans was inducted into The Dutch Blues Hall of Fame.

Every year, Hans Theessink gathers an illustrious group of musicians to his „second Viennese living room“ the Metropol. There he gives the audience—and himself—the most wonderful birthday present that can be given to such a tireless ambassador of roots and blues music: making music together. When the great and much-too-soon departed blues legend Luther Allison attributed a „special philosophy“ to this music, he revealed himself to be Hans Theessink’s brother in spirit. His sonorous voice and virtuoso, rhythmic guitar have become unmistakable trademarks, as has his unparalleled songwriting, whether he’s singing about love, friendship, and togetherness, or about how life isn’t all sunshine. It is a recognition that, regardless of our ancestry and origins, the color of our blood is always the same, connecting us all. This is a central component of the „special philosophy“ of the blues. Anyone who has ever attended a Hans Theessink concert knows that he succeeds in conveying this sense of community to the audience from the very first bars.
